Forever Gone
I gently tread upon this place knowing you’re not really here as my tears they fall upon the soil, then quickly disappear.
I stare down at your place of rest, reading aloud words etched in stone, for the gesture makes me feel as though I’m not standing here alone.
Memories surround me here: the crowd, the wind, the sky - - all the details of that mournful day when so final felt goodbye.
I believed I was a victim then
of a cruel and heartless theft, but I’ve a different mindset now from the person that you left.
They told me time would ease the pain like ripples vanish in a pond,
but time is not a wishing well
or an enchanted magic wand.
For a while there was no escape;
life and pain were interlaced.
No matter how much a farewell may fade, it can never be erased.
But no one is forever gone,
as long as memories keep repeating like an imaginary heartbeat that never stops its beating.
