Would Be Memories
It’s not the memories we made that are troubling my mind. It’s the ones that would’ve, should’ve been...
the memories left behind.
For when I cannot share with you things of this time and place, the hole inside my heart becomes a dark and lonely space.
A deep and endless cavern with each would-be memory
of the love, the life, the laughter you should be sharing next to me.
And when I do seldom laugh or let joy inside my heart,
a certain guilt comes over me because you’re not a part.
I feel like a jigsaw puzzle whose four corners are gone, and I’m now coloring my life with a broken crayon
because I’m haunted every day by the yearning and the aching of all the would-be memories together, we’d be making.
