The text accompanying this engraving is as
follows:
“1895, Contest of the journal
L’Acclimatation for the presentation of the
most beautiful types of animals.
Sighthound Sloughi. The subject which has
the honor of the engraved representation
belongs to Mr. Musany, the learned horse
man, whose works are particularly
appreciated by Hippologists.
The dog, Colin, received 2nd prize at the
Tuileries Exhibition last year; he is the
representative of a family of Sighthounds
that, for many long years, Mr. Musany has
cultivated with a particular care and a
breeder’s skilled knowledge.

To judge by this portrait, an exact copy of
a photograph, one realizes the perfection
of form that selection, combined with
perseverance which is at the base
of the breeder’s knowledge, can bring;
only experience can guide in the
delicate operations of the choice of
breeding animals.”
The folded ears were correct at the time
for the Sloughi.
Unfortunately, no information could be
found about the artist, except that he did
many such engravings of all kinds of
animals.
