Introduction

            This manual has been prepared to instruct employees about the safe operation of overhead cranes and
            the associated rigging.  Employee health and safety, as well as that of the public, depend upon careful
            application of safe procedures.

            This manual covers the laws, regulations, required procedures and work rules  relating to  the  safe
            operation of overhead cranes.  The information in this manual is current as of the publication date.  It
            should be noted, however,  that  requirements  are subject  to change  over time as new means are
            developed to control or eliminate certain workplace hazards or as new hazards are identified.  For this
            reason, a list of resources is provided to assist you in obtaining the most up-to-date information.

            This manual provides general guidance for the safe operation of overhead cranes and should be used
            in conjunction with manufacturer and company instructions and procedures.  This document is not a
            comprehensive  source  book  on  occupational  safety  and  health.    Workplace  Safety  Specialists,  a
