Freds Marinara Sauce

Prep 15 min ∙ Cook 5 hours ∙ Makes 6 servings ∙ Difficulty Easy
INGREDIENTS
4 Tbls olive oil
2 cloves garlic, slice thin
1 medium onion, chopped
1 large can crushed tomatoes
1 large can tomato puree
1/2 cup water
1 Tbls salt
1/2 Tbls fresh ground pepper
1/2 Tbls dried basil
1/2 Tbls dried oregano
1 Tbls parsley
2 bay leaves
1 Tbls sugar
1 small can tomato paste
1/2 cup red wine
DIRECTIONS
Heat oil in a dutch oven pot until hot (oil is shimmering). Add the garlic slices until they turn golden and then remove from the oil and discard.
Add onion and cook until translucent.
Add the tomatoes, puree and water. Add in the rest of the ingredients
Turn heat to a low simmer and cover. After 30 minutes, add the tomato paste.
Cook sauce 3-4 hours on low simmer.
NOTES
This sauce is best the next day! Remove from heat, let cool and place in the fridge over night. Re-heat the next day.
This is best served with meatballs or Italian sausage.
