CONSTRUCTION AND INFRASTRUCTURE SECTOR

Many of the traditional trades such as plumbing, electrician, builder, painter and decorator,
surveying fall into this area. As New Zealand moves forward into the future there will a great
demand for people with these skills and there is high demand for women as half the
               customer base is female

We have students interested in electrical and we encourage students to investigate these
               trades.

Gateway students are committed to completing a number of hours in a work place and in
gaining work related and generic standards. The hours in the workplace are at the
convenience of the employer. Students will be expected to do at least 80 hours over the
year. This can be done as days, half days or in holidays. These programmes aim to allow
students to experience the world of work in areas they are interested in. Among this year’s
work places that have allowed our students to work with them are: The Dept, Stationery
               Warehouse, Bliss.

               EMPLOYMENT

Employment helps students to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills for
effective communication in the work place. Students must be able to work independently
on purchased units of work. If students wish, work placement can be arranged.
