Aims: It is often said that “money makes the world go around” so the more we know about
how to earn it and manage it the better from both a personal and a business point of view.
This course will:
1. Start students on their journey towards financial capability - making wise choices with
money.
2. Provide students with an understanding of the vital role that entrepreneurs play in New
Zealand’s economy and some of the keys to business success.
3. Start building an understanding of the language of business and finance through
accounting for resources.
Content: This course draws from the subject areas of Accounting, Economics and Business
Studies. Activities include: Creating and managing a budget in the context of flatting with a
group of friends; Making a commercial to show the consequences of debt mismanagement;
Creating a product as a young entrepreneur and devising a business plan. There is an
opportunity for students to take part in the very popular BP Business Challenge.
