RENTOKIL INITIAL is a proud recipient of The Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Innovation, just a year after being recognised for International Trade.
Rentokil sets the global benchmark for innovation and digital solutions for effective and efficient pest control. Scientists at The Power Centre, the company’s science, innovation and training hub, have been responsible for a flow of breakthrough innovations, including the world’s smartest mousetrap.
When a mouse enters a Rentokil RADAR (rodent activated, detection and riddance) device it breaks an infrared beam, the circular doors close on the unit and the chamber is filled with CO2 to contain and despatch the mouse. The process is quicker than using traditional baits.
Using mobile connectivity within each unit,
information such as status, location and battery life is automatically received from the units in customers’ premises around the
world. PestConnect, Rentokil’s innovative ‘Internet of Things’ system, brings together the data from multiple RADAR units and stores it on Google Cloud to allow for data analysis.
This data is then made available to customers through our online portal
– myRentokil – giving them
24/7 visibility of their pest control
status. Rentokil technicians also receive
the information via a central online command centre, which maps and monitors pest activity via the connected units in the field, from detailed customer floorplans right up to country level. Not only does this make servicing more effective
and efficient, it also allows monitoring of trends so that actionable insights can be provided to support customers.
To date, an incredible 30 million messages have been received and stored from
across 10 countries.
Other innovative products from Rentokil include AutoGate, an intelligent device for permanent
external rat control, which uses infrared sensors to permit access
only to rats. PestConnect also reports on these activations, giving technicians
and customers a comprehensive overview of rat activity in the area.
