1930s STYLE
In this studio shot from 1968, CKLW PD Paul
Drew and Capitol promo guy Tom Gilardi are
dressed in the style of a few decades earlier to
mark the release of Georgie Fame’s hit “Bonnie
and Clyde.” Behind the mic is Big Jim Edwards
(Jim Davis), who sent us this fun pic. Though
it was a Canadian station, CKLW was aimed
squarely at Detroit; Davis writes, “By 1969
the radio station had a 22 share of the Detroit
audience, making it one of the most influential
Top 40 stations in the history of modern radio.
Its powerful signal covered many of the Eastern
Seaboard states and a number of provinces in
Canada.” Big Jim recently retired as VP/GM of
a five-station South Florida cluster and is doing
voiceover work (www.jimdavisvoice.com).
