related with each quarter-hour equaling two-thirds of a semester-hour.
The discussion focuses on the semester system because it is far more common.
Pedagogy is the method or practice of teaching, so it defines how
knowledge is transferred to individuals. The traditional pedagogical
approach, which is commonly used in undergraduate courses, is lecture-
discussion, where (1) faculty members explain concepts, models, pro-
cesses, and techniques and (2) students ask questions, respond to inquiries
from faculty, and offer opinions on the topic. As described in Chapter 7,
changes in pedagogy that provide different methods of learning for differ-
ent learning styles should improve the quality of education and lower the
cost of instruction.
The goals of redesigning curriculum and pedagogy are as follows:
1. To graduate a higher percentage of students in four years
2. To prepare students better so employers are more satisfied and job
placement rates increase
3. To educate students at a lower cost so their debt is substantially
reduced or eliminated and their access to higher education improves
