liquid explosives, soil ecotoxicity, vertebrate and
invertebrate ecotoxicity. Other jurisdictions have also
adopted additional hazard criteria, not included in
the GHS. For example the EU’s CLP regulations have
included an additional 26 hazard statements. Canada
will include criteria for pyrophoric gases; simple
           asphyxiants; and combustible dusts
Other countries have implemented the GHS at
different times with varying transition periods. The
European Union regrettably decided not to adopt six
hazard criteria embodied in the GHS, consequently
the implementation of the GHS is not harmonised. The
EU version of the GHS has been fully implemented for
substances and was fully implemented for products in
           2015.
Australia has adopted the same criteria as the
European Union plus category 4 Flammable liquids and

Other counties are in various stages of adopting the

           Exporting
When exporting it is imperative to understand the
requirements that apply in the market where the goods
are to be sold and to package and label hazardous
           substances according to those requirements.
           Transport of dangerous goods
Dangerous goods are items that are potentially
dangerous during transportation. These goods are
subject to special transport requirements to eliminate
or minimise the risk of injuring people, or damaging
           property and the environment.
They include a wide range of solids, liquids

Requirements for air, rail, road and sea are not the
same. Similarly the requirements of one country may
not necessarily be the same as those of another.
