Final call
The dry desert air around the
309th Aerospace Maintenance and
Regeneration Group (AMARG) in
Tucson, Arizona, makes it the ideal
place to store aircraft. Nicknamed
2
‘The Boneyard’, this 10km site
contains over 4,000 aircraft
awaiting either repairs for possible
future service or destruction for
scrap parts. At the bottom of the
image, B-52 nuclear bombers look
like dismembered flies, providing
proof to Soviet satellites during
the Cold War that they were out
of commission.
