worthy. Based on
Richard K Morgan’s
2002 cyberpunk novel, Altered Carbon is set
in a dystopian future where mankind has
conquered death: Consciousness can be stored
on a memory stick (called a ‘stack’) and
continually uploaded via the spinal column into
a new body (or a ‘sleeve’). Our hero is Takeshi
Kovacs (The Wolverine’s Will Yun Lee), a rogue
super-soldier whose mind is re-inserted into a
new vessel (Robocop’s Joel Kinnaman; inset) to
solve the murder of a tycoon (James Purefoy).
The 10-part sci-fi noir contains extracts of
Blade Runner, Total Recall, The Matrix and
Westworld, but has enough craziness to stand
out in the crowd.
