Anita - Your two pieces are probably part of a nicely done three
Questions & A. or five piece American parlor set from the very early part of the
20th century. The basic inlay design is the last vestige of the Aesthetic
Common Sense Answers Movement in American antique furniture. Most sets like this were
made in the eastern part of the country, primarily in New York and the
surrounding areas. While sets of the same general layout were available
with Fred Taylor from such places as Sears and Wards, the well done sets like yours were
sold in higher end establishments or were custom built. The primary
wood in your set appears to be mahogany but it may be birch with an
aniline dye. Hard to tell from the photos. The inlay work is satinwood and

New Smyrna Beach, FL Robert - The trick is to work with the wood, not against it. Take
