Dee – John Tarrant Kenney is the man who discovered the remnants of
A. the Hitchcock chair factory in Connecticut over a century after Lambert DELAND
Hitchcock quit the business in 1840 or so. Kenney reinvented the company. He
started producing Hitchcock style reproduction chairs using original designs ANTIQUE SHOPS & MORE
and stencils in 1946. Before it closed in 2006 the company was a major force
in American furniture making chairs, tables and a variety of other furniture
products. I did not know Kenney made any furniture other than the Hitchcock ANGEVINE’S
repros. He owned a series of shoe stores in Connecticut before WWII and FINE SILVER, INC.
joined the Marines in 1943 but fell ill and never served. He discovered the old Over 30,000 Pieces of Sterling
factory on a vacation/fishing trip in 1946. Here is the website for the modern DeLand’s Oldest Antiques Shop
Hitchcock Chair Co. http://www.hitchcockchair.com. Asparagus Servers to Sardine Forks
Kenney also wrote the definitive book on Hitchcock and his furniture Baby Cups to Tea Services
entitled “The Hitchcock Chair” published by Potter, copyright 1971. The book 3 2899 S. Woodland Blvd.
is out of print but old copies are available online if you look. I think you will 4 4 DeLand, FL 32720
find, if you dig deep enough, that the “pegs” in your table are actually caps 386-734-3553
covering the screws used to assemble the table. John T. Kenney was not a M-F 10AM-5PM; SAT 10AM-4PM
great craftsman, just a good organizer and businessman. Thanks for writing. Purchase on the web at:
