Most nouns ending in o preceded by a consonant is formed into a plural by adding es.
EXAMPLES:
potato-potatoes tomato-tomatoes hero-heroes
Some nouns ending in f or fe or ff are made plural by changing f or fe to ves.
EXAMPLES:
calf-calves life-lives shelf-shelves
Irregular nouns are formed by changing the spelling of the noun.
EXAMPLES:
man-men child-children ox-oxen
Noncount nouns do not have a singular or a plural form.
EXAMPLES:
homework courage meat corn air coffee gravity rice
