Increasing Obesity in Children Class VII
Obesity is the condition where excess of fat is accumulated in our body. It is caused by
the carelessness of every individual. Obesity is dangerous when it crosses beyond a
limit.
Children and sometimes even adults eat a lot of junk food which can increase his/her
weight. Reducing weight, which is a really hard work, can be helped by exercise, yoga
and visit to the gym and also by having a balanced diet. The energy or the carbohydrates
that the athletes take up are used up in their activities whereas the energy is not used
up in the workers who sit in front of the computer and work without moving for hours.
The carbohydrates and fat get stored in their body as layers of fat get accumulated and
they become lazy. Oil items and junk food can cause acidity.
Physical activities can make all fit. ‘Time and Health’ are two precious assets that we
don’t recognize and appreciate until they are being depleted. So children should always
be healthy and fit. Children should not play video games or watch TV the entire day,
instead they can play outdoor games or go out for a walk. Remember ‘Be Healthy, Be
Happy’. Alamukrithika. S, VII B

Obesity in Children a Global Warning
There has been a dangerous rise in obesity among children all around the world because of rapid, unhealthy
nutritional transition. More than 40 million children are seriously affected by obesity, making obesity the “most
common type of malnutrition” (nutrition deficient) among developed and developing countries.
Causes for Obesity
The urban life style (junk food) and special economic status (more of hotel food) lead to unhealthy obesity. Due to
high intake of energy dense food (high sugar content) and less physical activity (long hours on electronic gadgets)
children become obese.
Prevention is Better than Cure
Educate the kids
Follow traffic light eating habit
RED: STOP (sugary, salty, oily food)
YELLOW: CAUTION (meat, dairy, processed food)
GREEN: GO (fruits and vegetables)
Weight management is a suitable goal rather than weight loss.
