ENDURANCE AND RESILIENCE THROUGH FAITH:
 UPDATES OUR STORIES
Many times I find my mind in constant motion when I pray. My thoughts would glide like a soft feather gently caressing the wind. Often I close my eyes to see the landscape and try to glimpse the horizon far beyond. The experience is always pleasant –a spiritual nourishment to the soul!
Our faith in God gives strength to endure life’s difficulties. We find meaning to our trials if we believe in Jesus Christ. He strengthens us and replenishes our spirit.
Every Christian spiritual journey starts and ends with Christ. Our knowledge of God is fundamental to our Christian faith life. It will grow when we aspire to know God better.
To know a little bit about Jesus is like the sight of new shoots that grow from bud to its unfolding.
A wider and deeper knowledge of Christ, His life, death, and victorious resurrection is like a walk in the pathways of His garden. All is connected - everything has purpose and meaning!
The recent experience of my wife’s friend manifests her belief that God is worth all pains in life. If there’s anyone who should feel that life’s unfair and un-forgiving, I say it must be thisoneparticularfriend. Sheworksasanurse in hospital abroad and takes care of Covid patients every single day since this pandemic happened. She spent long hours serving other people in need and attending the sick on life supports. She had seen unspeakable struggles and fights to win the battle in narrow victory.
It started with a cough then followed by fever and shortness of breath. These were the same symptoms her mother living in Cebu had
experienced. On a Thursday morning, May 7, 2020, her mother was brought to the hospital, and just two days later her mother died. The body was cremated immediately on following day, Sunday, May 10th. It was Mother’s Day!
While Felma's friend talked with her online, she could not contain her emotions. She cried so hard that her tears streamed like it would never stop. Frustrations engulfed her entire being. She hated Covid and the irony of her work realizing that her entire professional career was dedicated for care of sick. But she wasn’t even given the chance to care and serve her mother when the latter needed her most. The virus swiftly took her mother’s life and in a blink of an eye, her mother was gone!
Emotions were poured out that fateful day. But no matter how difficult it was for her at first, the love and comforting words from my wife and friends ushered her back into perspective where God is present. It reminds her to bounce back and continue nurturing the same “love to care for the sick” as her oath of profession. This gifted her spirit the solace to embrace and endure life’s innate sweet sufferings which can only be found in Jesus.
