“No,” said Aimi, “but I didn’t know chimpanzees were that smart.” She closed her mouth. DJ talked to her about chimps. His stories were so interesting that the time went by very quickly.
“All right, young lady,” said DJ. “The sketch is finished. You can get down from the stool.”
DJ looked at Grami. “I’ll need you to bring Aimi back in a few days for one more sitting. Then the portrait will be ready in about two weeks.”
“Oh, good,” said Aimi. “Tad and Toni and Connor will be home from their ten-day camping trip. They want to meet you.”
“Great,” said DJ, the real live artist. “I’ll have the portrait ready for you. And there will be a secret, too.”
