“I like their short names,” said Aimi. “I like Tad and Toni.”
“People with long names often have short names, too,” said Grami. “Tad is short for Thaddeus Spurlock Williams, after his granddaddy. Toni is short for Isabelle Antoinette Valdez, after her auntie.”
“Tad and Toni had to learn to spell long names and short names,” Aimi said, looking up at Grami. “I only had to learn to spell one name. My name is not too long and it is not too short. It’s just right for me.”
“Yes,” agreed Grami, smiling at Aimi. “You only have to remember one name and it is just right for you.”
