Reusing Foundations
Strategies for re-purposing foundations (1)
creation of a piled raft
Brief description:
One of the concerns for reuse has been the continued
loading of historic foundations to design loads with all the
uncertainties that code changes can bring. CGL on a project
in Lambeth High Street, with structural engineers Iesis, were
able to convert a piled structure to a new piled raft structure
allowing a substantial reduction in pile loadings with the
enhancement of the original floor slab to a raft.

Strategies for re-purposing foundations (2)
reuse of piles
Brief description:
Working with Simpson Associates, CGL was engaged to
provide a site investigation to assess the viability of reusing
the existing piled foundations and incorporating them into a
proposed new 14 storey concrete frame building with much
higher foundation loads than the original 9 storey structure.
Services provided were:

Reconfiguring demolition temporary support
foundations
Brief description:
Working closely with Galliford Try on the Seymour Street site
complex foundations and supports were rationalised. CGL
provided considerable value engineering by lowering the
foundations temporary gable support towers while
maintaining tight party wall movement constraints.
