This is a service/ learning project that involves high school students volunteering to work with students
with multiple disabilities as peer role models. In this project, students and teachers cooperate to mentor
students who struggle with appropriate social skills and have learning deficits. High school students will
benefit from this experience through personal development, academic achievement, career exploration, and
good citizenship. Service/ learning for high school credit focuses on real needs in the building in which
services provided through high school students will support the learning goals of the multiple disabled
students. High school students will engage in classroom activities as peer models to MD students 5 times
per week for 30-50 minute sessions to earn credit. This project is available for one semester as outlined in
             the individual service plan.

             Course Outline:
Community Service is the center of community involvement and building strong character. These projects
must involve the components of research, training, planning, time-commitment to the service project and
evaluation. All projects must have a teacher of record and a project supervisor. Students will be required
to keep a portfolio documenting attendance and summarizing activities of an individual service plan. The
portfolio must be approved, reviewed, and signed on a regular basis during the project's duration. Sixty
             (60) hours are required by the teacher of record for one half credit, and one-hundred and twenty (120) hours
is required for a full credit.

Approval of the project must follow the chain of command (i.e. teacher of record, Principal,
Superintendent, and School Board). For this reason, advance planning, application, and approval is
             important.
