him and to go back to my dad's house and meet the police there. 43 I did just that. A few police officers arrived within minutes. I met the police officers at Johnny's house and brought them inside. I showed them that my dad was in bed and sick and I showed them the shelf of photos of Ginger along the wall.
One of the officers looked at me and said, “I understand. Don't worry. I'll bring your dad's dog back.”
I stayed with my dad for the next twenty minutes while the police tried to work everything out. Interestingly, Johnny's ex‐wife happened to be there at the time. She went with the police to make sure that the neighbor did not leave with Ginger. She told the police that Ginger belonged to my dad and he did not give Ginger away.
Because I did not want to upset him, I did not wake my dad to tell him what was going on. At this point he had been sleeping a
lot. Unfortunately, he was barely eating and drinking. I did not
lose hope, though. He had a doctor's appointment in less than 10 days and I was determined he would walk in through the doctor's door and amaze everyone! We were so confident, he even asked me to get him some new clothes because he had lost so much weight. I agreed. The nurses also told me it was a good idea that my dad wear nice, clean clothes in order to make him feel better about himself ‐ especially since friends of his were often visiting. I told
