Hi Roadies,
Well here it is ... December is here and the weather is great. I ask myself where has the year gone then I come back to reality and remember I’ve been nursing my foot since April and have not been able to do many of the things I had planned for the year, and... oh well a new year is not far off.
This past year has been a good year for Chapter R members, with all the events the chapter has been involved in and with the great rides our Ride Committee has provided. I
want to take a moment to say thank you to all my committee members for your input this past year and especially to the Road Captains that have stepped up to lead the rides and helped plan the routes.
The Ride Committee will be meeting soon to begin planning new rides for the year 2019, did I say 2019? Really already! Where do the years go, seems like I just retired but it’s been 12 years already, unfortunately that means I’m 12 years older. Say
what.?
Ok now “ listen up “ January 1, 2019 , New Years Day we have a great ride and lunch planned, we’ll ride to the town of Tortilla Flats AZ, population of SIX residents and home to the Tortilla Flats Restaurant, a General Store and a Saloon.
Tortilla Flats is the last surviving stagecoach stop along the Apache Trail, it’s also the smallest official commu- nity in Arizona and has a post office and voter’s precinct. The road to the restaurant is newly paved and some of the curves have been banked to make navigation around the corners a little better.
Please join us, I’ve
promised a big group in
order to get reservations
on New Years Day. For more info about this great place visit http://www.tortillaflataz.com
The ride back will be by way of the Bush Highway with a stop at Saguaro Lake for photos.
Saguaro Lake was formed by the Stewart Mountain Dam, which was
completed in 1930. It was the last of the reservoirs to be built on the Salt
River.
Until next time
