Description:
This 1-day cycle tour has you cycling through one of the most spectacular gorges on the Otago Central Rail Trail. The trail is vehicle-free, has an easy gradient and takes you through amazing scenery, over viaducts and through tunnels. Our driver will transport you from Clyde, highlighting points of interest along the way, to Oturehua where you can start the mainly downhill ride back to Clyde.
Your adventure starts at 8:30am at our Clyde Depot where you will be fitted on your bikes and briefed on your tour. We will then transport into the peace of the Ida Valley to Oturehua, where there is time for morning tea and any last minute questions before you set off. The ride will take you through the Poolburn Gorge featuring two tunnels and two viaducts in a secluded rocky setting. The next stop is Lauder where lunch is booked at the Stationside Café; then it is back on the bikes to cycle the remainder of the trail. There is an option to be picked up from Chatto Creek or Alexandra if required. From Alexandra, there are two routes from which to choose. You can either continue on the Rail Trail directly back to the Trail Journeys Depot, or cycle through Alexandra, over the Clutha River / Mata Au, and take the scenic River Track, back through Clyde township to the depot - this is approximately 8kms longer.

• Cycle equipment: bicycle, helmet, repair kit, panniers, odometer and trail documentation
• Morning Tea Oturehua and a 1:00pm lunch at Stationside Cafe
• Transport: Clyde to Oturehua by shuttle - departing Clyde at 9:00am
• Side trips Ophir, Blacks Hill and Hayes Engineering Works at Oturehua
• Pick up from Chatto Creek or Alexandra if you do not wish to cycle the full 67km Optional Extras:
• Discounted rate of NZD$45.00 extra per person per day to upgrade to electric bikes. Subject to availability
• Transport to and from Queenstown.
