Florence is also home to some fashion history. Alabama Chanin and Billy Reid have their flagship stores in The Shoals. Billy Reid is located in downtown Florence and features his beautifully designed clothes. Alabama Chanin is located a bit
further out, because her store is connected to the warehouse where her sustainable designs are made.
Florence and The Shoals are the definition of hidden gems. We had passed through this area dozens of times on road trips from ‘here, there, and everywhere’. It felt like a blip on the map, but it is so much more.
In Florence alone there are two boutique hotels and dozens of local restau- rants. You could spend weeks just eating your way through The Shoals, and we’re only showing you a glimpse into its culinary world.
If you’re looking for something to do outdoors, the sky is the limit. The Shoals is known for its incredible bass fishing, and they hold tournaments every year. There are also
countless walking trails for every adventure level. We’re not mountain climbers, but we took a stroll
over the old railroad bridge, which gives you some great views of the
Tennessee River.
If you’re interested in music history, architecture, fashion, food, and small town America then you need to visit
The Shoals. This area has so much to offer with affordable prices all around for lodging, food, and entertainment.
The rest of the Florence portion of the magazine will give you a glimpse into all that’s possible in Florence, Muscle Shoals, Tuscumbia, and Sheffield. But, if you still need more resources or help planning a trip to The Shoals, you can visit the tourism board’s website. We’ve linked them (and other featured businesses) on page 55.
