have attained that awareness, you are truly “poor in spirit.” Nothing exists and nothing belongs to you. This understanding is not reached in a sentimental way, but due to a spiritual expansion that perceives all material phenomena as nothing more than illusion. Since everything is Divine, since everything is God Himself, there is nothing to own. The moment you have nothing to own, you become supremely “poor,” but at the same time you are the owner of the Kingdom of Heaven itself. You become One with God, the Absolute, and enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, attaining Liberation or Nirvana. All these are different names for the same sublime state in which unlimited bliss and supreme peace become yours forever.
II. Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted.
For spiritual seekers of all faiths there is great signi cance in Christ’s use of the term “mourn” in this great Beatitude, the second in the Sermon on the Mount. To “mourn,” in this profound sense, does not imply a sentimental form of grieving. It does not mean to be always in a state of sadness and gloom.
