Similarly, if you have not had a taste of Divine expansion, you may experience sadness in the initial stages of spiritual movement when you are told to become free of the world of limitation. Gradually, however, as you advance and your mind experiences a higher reality, the message of freedom is welcomed, and you are eagerly led beyond your previous limited egoistic concepts to a realm devoid of pathos. When you understand in the depth of your being that the world cannot give you real happiness, your mind relinquishes the burden that it has been perpetually carrying.
Thinking that at some time happiness will be attained, human beings carry bundles of karmas (impressions in the unconscious that result from previous actions, and which give rise to future actions for the incarnating soul). But happiness is not to be found in the karmic burden. It is not in the objects or circumstances of the world. Even if you were to wait for millions of years for happiness in the world, that will never be. Once your mind has profoundly understood that happiness is yours only in the Self, only in realizing who you really are, you become free of the burden of karmic suffering that weighs heavily on human existence.
