Further, it is possible to be objectively righteous, yet subjectively confused. For example, speaking the truth is generally considered a great virtue. However, you may say something in the name of truth, hurting many people as you do so, while deep within you enjoy having injured them. Externally you have spoken the truth, but internally you have merely glori ed your ego.
According to the most profound teachings of all religions, it is the entry into the universality of existence deep within your consciousness that opens the door to true righteousness. That which is right promotes this universality. Any action, emotion, thought or sentiment that obstructs your movement towards universal life is unrighteous. This must be interpreted by your individual reason and understanding. Tasting the sweet taste of candy is your direct perception. You are your own judge. Similarly, you taste expansion within yourself by your own light, your own mind. Whatever takes you away from that expansion is unrighteous, even if it is clothed in externally righteous garb.
Righteousness Is the Keynote of All Religious Teachings
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
