Continue to be enduring while facing the opposition to goodness from others. Continue to maintain your deeper understanding of virtue undeterred by all external obstruction. If someone behaves spitefully towards you, it is easy to react with cruelty. However, greatness lies in controlling your own anger, and transforming that anger into love. If you do so, the cruel personality will eventually become transformed into a compassionate personality.
The moment a person is seen to have done something wrong or harmful, they are given the stamp of “criminal” or “undesirable.” That is not the way a sincerely religious mind sees things. A merciful mind never sees a person as an absolute sinner. Cruelty and vices are diseases of the personality. A doctor does not hate the patient
