because the patient is ill. Rather, he helps remove the disease. In the same way, a Sage guides people to evolve spiritually rather than remaining focused on their narrow, limited mental conditions.
Therefore, as an aspirant, learn to see God as the underlying basis of all that exists. See God behind the mask of a wicked, violent and sinful personality. If you do so, it is possible that you will see the victory of love over hatred, and the victory of righteousness over unrighteousness.
When the impressions of anger, hatred, pride, fault- nding, cruelty and greed begin to dissolve due to the development of the positive impressions of love, compassion, humility, and generosity, then the inner stream of life begins to commune with universal life. Therefore, one becomes a fountain-source of inspiration to oneself, as well as to everyone else.
Exemplars of Divine Compassion
To develop true mercy or compassion, reeducate and transform your unconscious. This can be accomplished in various ways, but the most important method is satsanga, or good association. Keep your mind in constant association with the great ideals presented by Sages and Saints from all religions. Study their lives and understand how Divine qualities developed within their personalities and served as a blessing to others.
