Mystic pathways through the bible
replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the Kingdom of God unless they are born again.” “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.”
(NIV John 3:1-5)
In this story in the New Testament, Nicodemus was bewildered by what Jesus meant by rebirth. This puzzle must also be resolved by aspirants. The art of spiritual rebirth sprouts in the form of aspiration, matures into the tree of spiritual discipline, unfolds the blossoms of Divine virtues, and bears the fruit of immortality. Only when one is born of Water (Divine Love) and of the Spirit (Wisdom) is one truly born in Spirit. When bhakti (devotion) and jnana (wisdom) blend within the personality, the aspirant ascends to the majestic heights of spiritual consciousness.
You must be twice-born to enter the Kingdom of God. Normal human birth con nes you to the family of mortals. However, with the vision of your deeper Self, spiritual birth dawns within your personality. Thus born, you relate yourself to the family of Sages and Saints, and to the world of the immortals.
