Rather than reaping a harvest of wisdom from a life well lived, many elderly people feel ridiculed by the younger generation and are obsessed with trying to recapture their youthful charms. Society has taught them only to worship the spring of their life and therefore they do not see the value of their inner spiritual identity. This situation is terribly degrading for a society.
However, the spirit of brahmacharya helps to promote a culture in which people can age with grace and feel a profound sense of being appreciated. In a truly healthy society, elderly people should be revered for their wisdom and experience and their ideas should be a source of delight for all. The notion that memory must fail and brain cells must degenerate as one grows older does not hold true for those who live a profoundly spiritual life. They become more capable of advanced thought and creative understanding.
Converting Passion into a Spiritual Force
Sublimated sex energy—known in Yogic terminology as ojas shakti—produces an extraordinary vitality in the human body and mind. A mind that vibrates with spiritual strength radiates effulgence that gives a glow and luster to the entire personality.
