The welfare of the world depends greatly upon how the human mind learns to convert its passions into spiritual force. Political and social ideals are wonderful, but they cannot be practiced with much success unless human minds possess greater strength and depth of understanding. This is why Mahatma Gandhi asserted the importance of the virtues of truth, nonviolence and brahmacharya, and encouraged the practice of these virtues on an international level. He wanted those who followed him to adopt these virtues to the best of their capacity.
When the human mind is constantly af icted by anger, passion and the distraction of worldly acquisitions, it becomes insensitive to its deeper possibilities. Under their in uence, life becomes a frantic pursuit of wealth and pleasures of the senses that can never provide an authentic or lasting ful llment. Therefore, even while one is young and energetic, it is important to strive to lift oneself above these burdensome traits by understanding and practicing the ideals of brahmacharya, truth and nonviolence. Inspired by these ideals, one can discover the great joy that unfolds within the human heart through love of the Self—the essence of all that is lovable.
What Is Real Love?
