Traction Converter Unit
The traction converter uses insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT)
technology with liquid-cooled power semiconductors.
The purpose of the Traction Converter is to convert the electrical energy at
the input (secondary side of main transformer) into electrical energy with variable voltage
and variable frequency which can be used to supply the traction motors.
The input of the traction converter unit is supplied by the transformer at a
voltage which is mainly determined by the overhead line voltage.
The output is the voltage and frequency-variable three-phase output
which supplies the traction motors.
Auxiliary Converter Unit
The purpose of Auxiliary Converter Unit (ACU) is to convert the power from the AC
360V, 50Hz secondary windings of the main transformer (see also MN-13) into the voltages
suitable for the train’s auxiliary electrical systems.
