On Page 6 of the September issue, you show the B-47
that was used as a test-bed for the Iroquois engine. When
I attended the dinner for the Canadian Aviation Hall of
Fame in Vancouver, I sat with a man who had been
involved with those tests. He told me that the B-47 was
indeed returned to the U.S. Air Force following the tests.
But it never flew again. The Iroquois engine was so
powerful it had actually bent the fuselage and made the
plane no longer serviceable nor fit for operations.
According to the gentleman, it was scrapped shortly after
the USAF got it back.
Now that's Canadian power for you!
