US CURRICULUM SECTION – Grades 9 to 12
SRS offers a comprehensive, high-quality US Curriculum Pathway for
Grades 9 through 12. Students will have the option to enroll in the US
Section beginning their 9 grade year. Families are encouraged to
th
assess the needs and future career pathways of the student to
determine if the US Curriculum pathway is the right fit for their child.
Students in the US Section will study the following core subjects:
English Language, Arabic Language, Islamic Studies, Mathematics
(including advanced-level mathematics offerings), Science (life and
physical sciences), and Social Studies. Additionally, students in the US
Section are required to take Art and Physical Education. In addition,
we offer a number of elective courses both full-year and half-year,
including the following: Speech and Debate, Computer Science,
Economics, Business, Media, Advanced Physics, Global Studies, and
many more.
Unlike the British Curriculum, in the US Section students have to
accumulate a minimum number of credits earned by obtaining a
grade of ‘D’ or above. Students are continually assessed and the
work they do in class on a daily basis counts towards their course
grade. For the US Section, the school year is divided into two
semesters having two quarters in each semester. Each quarter
students will receive a report of their course grades. Students will
have their Semester 1 exam in January at the end of Quarter 2. The
Semester 2 exam will be in June at the end of Quarter 4.
