The Thrush and the Ground-bird. and Tom-tit blue,
The Meadow-lark and the Yeliow-bird, too,
The Shrike and the Kite and King-bird flew
To choose each a partner fair.
“ Coo! coo! coo!”
The W ooi-dove sang 'with a tender trill,
While soft and low from the crested hill
Came the plaintive cry of the Whip-poor-will,
And the call of the blue-winged Jay.
The Yellow hammer arrived finite late,
The Crow cawed alo'.id a1; lie: sat in state,
And each one merrily chose ;i mate
