                            Holiday Train Show
The New York Botanical Garden offers a garden-wide Holiday Train Show this year from Saturday, November 17, 2018 to Monday, January 21, 2019. The Bronx Institute will be hosting a trip to this 27-year-long tradition where students and their families can enjoy the show with their fellow GEAR UP members. You will be able to watch model trains streak past more than 150 scaled buildings during this celebrated event.
This year’s exhibition will include Lower Manhattan, which adds the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island to the list of viewable buildings. Other famous structure include the One World Trade Center and the Battery Maritime Building.
Other programs and events will be happening at the same time all around the Garden, including a poetry event with former U.S. Poet Laureate and Lehman College distinguished Professor Billy Collins, Holiday Acapella
Music Show, a Family Film Series, a Holiday Landmark Tour,
and the Holiday Menorah and Tree Lighting Ceremony. The poetry event will be bookended by a poetry contest where 12 contestants’ work will be displayed at the Botanical Garden and the winners will be asked to participate
in a special poetry reading. Even if not with us, we encourage you to visit some of these activities to enhance your holiday.
“At the Botanical Garden, we learned I’ve always been interested in painting, so I The Botanical Garden visit taught me that
about different plants and how they interact with the environment. The most interesting thing for me was learning about invasive plants. They take over native plants that we need for medicine and other things.”

was happy to experience the Georgia O’Keeffe exhibit at the Botanical Garden. I got to see the colors that she used and what she focused on as an artist. She painted a lot of flowers and landscapes. I want to paint my own flowers and landscapes, especially the NYC skyline.

there are many sides to Georgia O’Keffe that people may not know about. She had very unique views and her paintings changed based
on how she was feeling when she painted them. For example, a painting she did had skulls that many people thought represented death, but to her they actually represented life. Alyssa Angelina Green – Pelham Prep 11
