Personally, I thought the GEAR UP presentation was great! The GEAR UP program seems very important to me because it can be very helpful for getting me into college. I would really like to get into Harvard University for college, and my career choice would be to become a field reporter. If I’m going to get into Harvard, I need certain things for my resume to be attractive. Programs like the High-Potential Achievers program and the ENLACE program would definitely help me with my aspirations. I’ll definitely be participating in GEAR UP this year.

Ifound the GEAR UP presentation interesting. Programs like GEAR UP are important because they give us a chance to improve and avoid struggling in high school. It also offers a better path to get into college. I’m not exactly sure about which college I’m planning on going to, but I’m starting to think about it because I know that college is coming up fast. The programs I would be most interested in joining are the ones where you get credit, wince it means you’ll be in school for less time and save some money. The ones that actually let you be on a college campus are also important because it basicallygivesyouapreviewofcollegeand also gives you credit. I’ll certainly be looking into GEAR UP this year.

Ithought the GEAR UP presentation was helpful. The summer program would give me early experience with college and prepare me for what’s coming. Programs like GEAR UP help us get ready for our futures and give us experience that we wouldn’t get otherwise. I would prefer to go to a tech school, because my career plan is to become an ultrasound technician. They’re basically the people who check on babies’ anatomy while they’re still in the womb. If I don’t make it in that field, I would like to be a doctor, which means I would have to attend 8 years of college and then do an internship for 4 years. I could even be a surgeon or an anesthesiologist. The medical field really excites me, and I’m already brushing up on medical terms and diagnoses.
Kyara Cosna – KAPPA, 9th Grade
Iwould be interested in joining the GEAR UP program. The activities I’m most excited for are the Journalism program and the college visits. I’m good at writing and I’ve always liked it. To me, writing is something that makes you feel free and that you can get very creative with. You can write about anything and I would do it all year round if the program ran that long. Some kids these days don’t have opportunities tojoinprogramslikeGEARUP,andasaresult they don’t have anything to do after school. Not many kids are selected for programs like these. Usually it’s only the outstanding ones,
so we’re very lucky to have something like GEAR UP in our school. As for my college plans, if I aimed high, I could get into Syracuse. If I’m able to show I’m outstanding, I could even get a scholarship. From there, I would do 4 years of college, 4 years in the Army, and then move on to the FBI.

I’ve actually been in the GEAR UP program before. I enjoyed my time with it, and I really liked going to Fordham University. I got to meet many new and interesting people in the program. Plus, the walk to Keating Hall was so great and I was serene from being able to see trees and nature. I would wake up and be happytogo.IwanttogotoalloftheGEARUP programs, but sadly, the High-Potential Achievers program takes place at the same time as the Journalism program. Still, I would
go to both if I could. I’m actually very competitive when it comes to my schoolwork,
so I want to get a lot of credits. If I see someone else has more credits than me, it gives me drive
to do better. I am aiming to go to Binghamton University. It’s the college that was recommended to me by people I know. It seems like it may be hard to get into, but it’s a great school for science. I love the science field andIwanttolearnmoreaboutit.Plus, thefield
is very diverse. You do things as a veterinarian that you wouldn’t do as a nurse, and vice versa. Shayna Fowler – KAPPA, 10th Grade 13
