Take the working end around the standing part
and up through the loop a second time, taking
care to make the second turn overlap the first
turn as shown in the photograph.
Midshipman’s Hitch: Step 4
With the working end, tie a half hitch (see page
22) around the standing part above the loop. The
knot can be moved to adjust the size of the loop.
When it is tightened and the loop loaded, the
knot will grip.
