GROW
GROW
In July 2019, five GROW Teams were formed
following the approval of the church’s Strategic Plan
by the Administrative Board. These GROW Teams are
dedicated to creatively implementing the primary goals
set forth by our Strategic Plan. These goals are to:
- deepen the faith and engagement of our
membership in the life of the church
- to grow our membership and faith community.
Here are some of the ideas that have sprouted
in each of our five GROW Teams. We are in the
process of implementing and taking action in these
areas so that we might experience growth and
greater involvement. Watch for some of these
ministry opportunities to begin in the new year!
Member Engagement:
• Volunteer books have been created and are
available in the church and on the website to allow
members to indicate areas of interest for volunteering.
• Individual Breeze accounts can now be created to
allow members to update information, add a picture
and register for events or ministries. An instruction
video can be found on our website.
Worship:
• Update and revise the church worship brochure.
• Move the announcements to the beginning of the
service to provide a more contemplative and prayerful
flow to the beginning of the worship services.
• Plan for additional music within worship, including
an extra congregational hymn, new anthems as well as
instrumentalists and other worship enhancements.
• Consider alternative worship experiences outside
of Sunday mornings including family worship, prayer
services and worship at other locations.
• Visitor handbook has been completed and is available.
• Create a smaller “Welcome to Skidaway Island UMC”
brochure to be distributed to new residents as well as
Thrive and The Marshes residents.
• Formation of fellowship groups to encourage non-
members to get to know our church members.
• Coordination of Young adult quarterly events,
service projects, 50s-60s fellowship group.
• Offer more senior adult activities and outings.
• Create a Visitor Welcome table in the Narthex to be
manned with volunteers before and after each service.
Small Groups:
• Create a survey to determine interest
in potential small groups that may be formed.
• Increase mid-week Bible Study options.
• Offer Christian Believer as a small
group opportunity in 2020.
• Strengthen and increase participation
in the Prayer Chain email and phone list.
• Encourage Sunday Morning prayer walks.
• Continue to encourage attendance
for all ages at Sunday school.
• Within the next year, offer a balance
of social and recreational small groups.
Education:
• Oversee the search process for
hiring a Director of Children’s Ministry.
• Create a Community Educational program
for parents of children and youth to focus on
the ever-changing challenges of parenting.
• Offer Service-Learning opportunities to allow
youth and adults to learn about social issues and
then work to meet tangible needs in the community.
• Create a Sunday School class for young adults
and continue to strengthen our current classes.
• Increase the number of Bible studies available,
both daytime and evening.
• Continue to deepen our educational
ministry to Children and Youth.
• Offer a minimum of six additional church-wide
educational sessions each year on Sunday mornings.
