Awards and Honors
HONOR STUDENTS – The student must have a 90 average or better. This average will be
taken from their 6 grade year through the end of the 5 six weeks of their 8 grade year.

Grades in the foundation curriculum subjects: math, writing, reading, social studies and
science will be averaged.
Academic Programs
The school counselor provides students and their parent’s information regarding academic
programs to prepare for higher education and career choices.
End Of Course Exams (EOC):
Algebra I / 8 Grade Math, Grade 8: A Score of (80%) or higher on the 7 grade Math

STAAR Test is needed to qualify for the Algebra I course. Students who register for this
class may also be enrolled in an 8 grade math class and be administered the Algebra I end

of course. Students who pass with a 70 or better and pass the End of Course Exam will
receive high school credit for Algebra I (grade weight and grade point average will not be
given to these students).(Score is subject to change at Principal’s discretion.)
Pre-Algebra, Grade 7: A Score of (80%) on the 6 grade Math STARR Test is needed to

qualify for the Pre-Algebra Course. Students enrolled in Pre-Algebra must also be enrolled
in 7 grade math; this course is an advanced elective course. (Score is subject to change at

principal’s discretion.)
SAT, ACT, And Other Standardized Tests

SAT testing may be offered to 7 Grade students who meet Duke Tip criteria.

For 8 Grade Gateway to Technology Class:
** Student must have scored a 40% in Reading and 42 % in math STAAR tests and must
have a final grade of 85 or better in all core areas. Students who pass with a 70 or better
will receive high school credit for Gateway to Technology (grade weight and grade point
