average will not be given to these students). (scale score is subject to change at principal’s
discretion.)
Note: Students will be exited from the Pre-Engineering pathway due to a final grade below
70 in Technology Systems and or failure to pass the STAAR in math or reading.
Class Schedules / Changes
Pre-registration of classes are held at the beginning of the second semester of the previous
year. If there is a need for a student’s schedule to be changed, this change must be done
within the first 10 days of each semester. The only exception would be an ARD committee’s
decision. Thereafter any changes needed throughout the school year must be approved by
the principal/assistant principal/dean of instruction only after a parent conference with
the student’s teacher and counselor.
Classwork Policy
Class work is independent practice given in conjunction with the class lessons. It is the
student’s responsibility to ask the teacher for missed assignments. Students are allowed to
make up work provided they have an excused absence.
Computer Resources
To prepare students for an increasingly computerized society, the district has made a
substantial investment in computer technology for instructional purposes. Use of these
resources is restricted to students working under a teacher’s supervision and for approved
purposes only. Students and their parents will be asked to sign a user agreement (separate
from this handbook) regarding use of these resources; violations of this agreement may
result in withdrawal of privileges and other disciplinary action.
Students and their parents should be aware that electronic communications—e-mail—
using district computers are not private and may be monitored by district staff.
[For additional information, see policy CQ.]
Counseling
Academic Counseling
Students and their parents are encouraged to talk with a school counselor, teacher, or
principal to learn about course offerings, the graduation requirements of various programs,
and early graduation procedures. Each spring, students in grades 6 through 8, will be
provided information on anticipated course offerings for the next year and other
information that will help to make the most of academic and vocational opportunities.
To plan for the future, including attendance at a college, university, or training school or
pursuing some other type of advanced education, students should work closely with the
counselor in order to take the middle school and high school courses that best prepare
them. The counselor can also provide information about entrance exams and deadlines for
application, as well as information about automatic admission to state colleges and
universities, financial aid, housing, and scholarships.
