HEART
A heart face shape means the forehead is wider than the jaw. If your client has a heart face shape, you will need to contour temples, cheekbones, and do a sharp contour around the jaw. Highlight the chin to balance it with the forehead.
ROUND
A face width and length almost equal, widest at the cheeks. To slim a round face, contour down the sides of the temples and cheeks. Highlight the chin and forehead to bring them forward for an even more slimming appearance.
SQUARE/RECTANGLE
Forehead, cheekbones and jaw line almost the same width. The square face will have a square, angular jaw line as the dominant feature, while the rectangle face may be long and angular. Soften the strong lines by contouring the sides of the temples and jaw, and highlight the forehead and chin to bring them forward.
PRIMER
Not every makeup artist uses a primer, however, if you want to use one there are things that you should know beforehand. First, always let the skincare soak in before applying a primer. This will prevent products from just sitting on top of the skin. Second, you may want to consider doing eyes first so that face products have enough time to be soaked up. Finally, there are many different types of primers: mattifying, hydrating, illuminating, and more. Always make sure that you are using the correct primer for your client’s skin type, as well as in the right area of the face. For example, do not use an illuminating primer in the t-zone, and you typically would not want to use a mattifying primer on the sides of the face.
FOUNDATION
You always want to shade match a foundation to the chest (and neck) of the client. This is because the chest will often be darker than the face, and you want to ensure that the body matches. Again, for the best application, ensure that the skin is properly prepared with moisturizer. In terms of types of foundations, you want to choose a formula that you know and trust, and that will also be both flattering and long-lasting on your client’s skin. Consider the client’s skin type and their undertone. You can then decide on whether you want to use a hydrating or mattifying formula, as well as which undertone you need in the foundation.
Using Airbrush foundations is a great way to achieve a lightweight application for a perfectly seamless look. It is also great for mature skin and covering up tattoos, scars, or discoloration such as tanlines. You can also charge extra for this. Recommended: Temptu makes a great airbrush kit.
