Don’t wait for companies to reach out to you: No one can make it happen for you but YOU! A lot of the time, your content might be fantastic, but you just haven’t been noticed yet. Sending out an email to connect with a brand might be the thing that gets you discovered. That being said, be realistic with your ask in relation to your following and Instagram feed.
Have a compelling pitch prepared: Offer to do something FOR THEM in return for products; you want this to seem like a fair trade.
Make your email pitch personable: Instead of building a template that you will use for every brand pitch, always include specific lines about the brand you are reaching out to. For example, talk about how much you love their products and why. Then, tell the company what you can offer them in return for some PR products. If you have used their products before, include a photo or video URL.
YOU have to put in the work: Spend time writing your email pitches, studying the brands, and building relationships. There are people with large followings that are not landing brand deals because they are not putting the effort in. If you put the time in, the sponsored content and PR products will come.
WEBSITES & CREATING A COHESIVE BRAND
It is so important to create a website for yourself, as you are your own brand and you want to present yourself in the most professional manner possible. Website building does not have to be difficult, in fact, you can do it on your own! There are many platforms out there that you can use, such as GoDaddy and Wordpress, but I recommend using WIX because of how easy it is to use.
STEPS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUILDING YOUR WEBSITE:
Choose your platform (host): Wix, GoDaddy, Wordpress, etc.
Choose your colours: You want to pick colours that go with your brand (logo, and your overall aesthetic), these are called brand colours. You will also want to be consistent with the colours that you pick, and ensure that the colours all go well together. If you want to find a certain colour, you can screenshot the image, then type “colour code generator from image” into Google. A good website to use is html-colours- code.info. You can then use this colour code on your website or in Canva, and this will ensure consistency on everything you create.
Choose your fonts: Make sure that the fonts you choose are easy to read. I recommend picking five fonts to use and be consistent with throughout your website. Break up the text by using text boxes: You do not want to have large paragraphs that are overwhelming for visitors.
Play up the text: Have fun with it and make it easier to read by using different fonts and colours. Make sure that words that you use in cursive (or scrolly) fonts are easily to read. For example, the word ‘Hello’ could be in this font style because people would know what it says.
Edit: Constantly tweak aspects of your website to improve them as you go. It’s ok to use images that are of different sizes, but make sure that anything that is asymmetrical looks intentional.
Design: Line things up properly by using the guidelines on the platform you are using.
Get inspiration: Do research and reference other websites to get ideas. Pull elements that you like from other websites (but do not copy someone’s website).
