TIPS FOR SUCCESS
Stay organized by using an online calendar: There are so many different apps out there that you can use for booking, but I recommend ‘Setmore’. This app is free and easy to use. It will send your client a confirmation email, and also remind both you and the client when your next appointment is. This is a great tool that will not only help you stay organized and avoid missing an appointment, but it will also make you appear more professional.
Use a professional email address: You cannot expect to look professional if your email is unprofessional. For example, an email address that you created when you were a teenager that has anything but your name in it is not acceptable for business. You should use your company’s name and register it under Gmail. For example, beautybyjulia@gmail.com. You can also purchase a personalized email address, for example info@juliadantas.com. This will make you appear far more professional.
Proofread your emails: Take the time to proofread your work, and especially any emails with brands. You can also download the app ‘Grammarly’ as this will automatically check your grammar and spelling.
Do what works: My mom always told me “Don’t reinvent the wheel”. This means to look at what successful people are already doing - because it’s working! It’s ok to take inspiration from others, just don’t copy people's work. There is nothing wrong with using inspiration photos to create your own looks. From a business perspective, take a look at what others are doing in their day-to-day to achieve success. Remember, there is only one YOU, and you will do something in your own unique way. For example, I am not the first person to create makeup classes and courses, but I took tips and general ideas from other people to create my unique makeup academy.
Get to know your client or brand: It is so important to know a brand’s audience in order to execute a vision properly. Always study a company’s social media, website, and overall brand to understand what their messaging and aesthetic is. If a brand likes minimal makeup on their marketing materials or Instagram page, make sure that you pitch an idea that makes sense and aligns with their aesthetic (a softer makeup look). Similarly, ask clients how they like to do their own makeup, and take a look at their Instagram or Facebook to better understand what type of look they may prefer. If a client tells you that they want a Kim Kardashian style of makeup, but they barely wear makeup, chances are they don’t actually want the FULL glam look that you may think of when you hear “Kim K makeup”. It’s important to be clear on the look and for your client to also provide you with images of themselves with makeup on, as well as inspiration images that they like.
