53 Polydectes: Is she the gift you bring? I do need another servant.

54 Perseus: Not at all! I’ve come to claim my mother!

55 Polydectes: Very well. (motions to guard) Go fetch her! (pause) I take
it you did not succeed on your odyssey. I knew you to be a failure

from the minute I met you. You know now that I will have to banish
you from my kingdom . . . or worse.

56 Perseus: Whatever pleases the king.

                                          57 (Guard returns with Danae.)

58 Polydectes: Here she is, safe and sound.

59 Perseus: (loudly) Mother, Andromeda, and anyone who calls me
                                             your friend should look away!

60 (Danae and Andromeda look away, but everyone else ignores his
request. Perseus pulls out Medusa’s head from the knapsack, and

everyone but Danae and Andromeda turn to stone. Perseus places
the head back in the bag.)

61 Danae: Perseus! You have saved us all!

62 Perseus: I want you to meet my new wife. Mother,
                                             meet Andromeda.

                                         63 (They all hug.)

64 Danae: My brave son. Great things
will come of you. Come, let’s leave
this horrid place. And let us

                                             celebrate your wedding!

                                             Lights dim.

                                             The End
