We would like to invite you into a space of gratitude and
celebration. Thomas L. Rankin has announced his
retirement from the university effective May 18, 2020.

Tom and I have had a great friendship over the past 13
years. He has also been the face of the Department,
meeting and greeting students in the front office. He
served the Department for 18 years. We laughed and we
cried-well maybe I cried, and we laughed again. Tom is
certainly a man I respect. He gave me new ways of
understanding the schedule of courses, and he provided
great statistical insight so that accurate decision could
be made. I am certainly thankful for the amazing
support he gave me as Chair of the Department and as a
faculty member. Tom will be sorely missed and I will
miss him most no matter what anyone else says.

However, this is not a time for sadness, but a time of
celebration. Please join me in celebrating Tom and all
the good work he has done in the Department of
Communication Studies.
