BIO ACTIVE KERATIN
Our Bio Active Keratin is extracted from New Zealand sheep’s wool.
This keratin is not extracted through a heating (hydrolysed) process, it is
done by oxidising it. The advantage of oxidising the keratin rather than
heating (hydrolysing) it is that this oxidising process leaves the peptides
and amino acids active, so they can repair on a molecular level. hydrolysed
keratin does not have this ability to do this.
Oxidised keratin also has a very low molecular weight, so that it will not
weigh down or overburden the hair. It is almost identical to the natural
keratin found in human skin and hair. Because of this low molecular
weight, it is possible to penetrate deep into the cortex strengthening from
the inside out. It will also lock into the cuticle layer to help smooth and
strengthen on the surface.
Bio active keratin is the name we use for the oxidised keratin. It is present
at a high level of 15% in the bhave Rescue treatment. The bhave rescue
treatment contains very few ingredients, namely Water, Oxidised Keratin,
Lactic Acid, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Phenoxyethanol and fragrance. The
only active ingredient in this formulation is the oxidised keratin. Other
actives are not needed. The bio active keratin is not used in the XT
smoothing treatment or the colour because it is active. We tried but
because it is essentially “live” (active) it kept causing the products to
“process”, thus rendering it unstable.
All of our shampoos and conditioners also have Bio active keratin in the
formulations to varying degrees.

The keratin in Supernova comes from Plant Extracts. It is a combination of
amino acids and peptides naturally found in hair.
